Abstract

Magnetotactic bacteria align with Earth’s magnetic field using tiny internal structures called magnetosomes. This passive alignment is complemented by swimming with flagella and aerotaxis, facilitating navigation toward low-oxygen areas in aquatic environments. This article explores not only the basics but also the molecular mechanisms behind magnetically assisted navigation in bacteria.
