Abstract

Given its crucial contribution to organismal development and adaptation, gene expression is subject to stringent regulation. With light as an inducer, reversible, noninvasive, spatiotemporally precise, and automatable expression control is reached. We advance circuits that target transcription or translation; respond to blue, red, or infra-red light; and afford pronounced regulatory responses. Alone or combined, these setups unlock innovative applications in fundamental and applied research.
