Deposit a doctoral thesis on EPub Bayreuth

If you would like to publish your doctoral thesis online according to the doctoral regulations applying to you, EPub Bayreuth, the document and publication server of the University of Bayreuth, is available free of charge. The publication can only take place after the printing permission from the doctoral committee has been obtained.

Before publishing your work on EPub Bayreuth, please ensure that the applying copyright and license law allows you to do so and that you do not infringe the rights of third parties, e.g. publishers. If you have already partially published your thesis or parts of it at a publishing house, the publisher must agree to the publication on EPub Bayreuth.

If parts of your thesis are patent pending or parts of your dissertation are in the review process of a journal, please contact one of the persons below-mentioned.
If you wrote a cumulative thesis, the library recommends adding the metadata of your articles, which are part of the thesis, to ERef Bayreuth, the University's bibliography. Another step to raise awareness of your research!
If you do not agree to this, please let us know while handing in your thesis.

Please upload the electronic version of your thesis to EPub Bayreuth as described below and send the following documents to the library:

  • printing permission issued by the doctoral committee
  • the correct number of printed copies
    • Faculty of Biology, Chemistry and Earth Sciences: 3 printed copies for the library and one electronic copy for the deanery
    • Bayreuth Graduate School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences (BayNAT): 3 printed copies for the library and 1 electronic copy for the deanery
    • Faculty of Law, Business and Economics: 3 printed copies for the library, the deanery does not require a copy
    • BIGSAS: 3 printed copies for the library and 2 for BIGSAS
    • Faculty of Engineering Science: 3 printed copies for the library and 3 for the deanery
    • Faculty of Cultural Studies: 3 printed copies for the library, the deanery does not require a copy
    • Faculty of Languages and Literature: 3 for the library, the deanery does not require a copy
    • Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science: 5 printed copies for the library and 1 copy for the deanery
  • signed publishing contract (‘Veröffentlichungsvertrag’)

You can deliver these documents personally or have them handed in by a third party. Please arrange an appointment with one of the persons listed below. It is also possible to mail the documents to the address below-mentioned.

Special regulations for the Faculty of Law, Business and Economics

The Faculty of Law, Business and Economics has a separate process for the depositing of the online version of a doctoral thesis on EPub Bayreuth. Please hand in the following items to the Deanery of the Faculty of Law, Business and Economics (sekretariat.rw@uni-bayreuth.de, Tel. 0921/55-6001):

  • 3 printed copies of your doctoral thesis
  • An abstract of no more than 1 page approved and signed by the primary referee
  • A confirmation by the primary referee that all the requested stipulations are fulfilled and that all discrepancies from the submitted version were made with the primary referee's consent.
Subsequently, the doctoral thesis may be uploaded to EPub Bayreuth as described below.
The signed publication contract has to be delivered to the University Library.
The University Library receives the printed copies and a letter that serves as a printing permission.
A confirmation of delivery and the online publication is sent to the deanery as soon as the University Library has obtained all the necessary documents.
